Tamerza Waterfall
TozeurAbout this place
Tamerza lies in the Djebel en Negueb mountains near the Algerian border. Just below the village, a stream drops over a rocky ledge into a small pool framed by date palms, a rare sight of running water on the edge of the Sahara.
Across the wadi, the old village was abandoned after the floods of 1969. Its mud-brick lanes and domed marabout make an easy walk and the best viewpoint over the gorge at sunset.
Getting there
About an hour's drive north-west of Tozeur on a paved road. The falls are a short walk down from the village.
Good to know
- Combine it with the Chebika and Mides oases on the same day.
- Bring water and a hat: there is little shade around the old village.
